W H A T I S T H E U S E O F N E G A T I V E S P A C E I N P H O T O S? - Negative space allows you to solo your subject - it also creates a relax mood that really lets the photo breathe - makes your photo feel clean and conservative or - it can provoke of solitude when used correctly - it can even become the subject of the entire photo. p h o t o g r a p h e r i n s p i r a t i o nW ha t t o d o , h o w t o d o I t a n d k e y p o i n t s :(1) find a location that will give you a plenty of open space or any area with less backdrops (2) if lucky enough, foggy weather will work best if aiming to some moody gray backdrop this works perfectly for more solemn minimalist photos. on the other hand beautiful golden sunset photos could still utilize negative space but it will give your photos an entirely different look (3) think about the light that will reinforce the mood you want for your photos (4) perspective will play a huge role in getting direct composition. [note: for me I prefer getting low to shoot or placing my subject to a higher hill or higher plane. See the example photo below] (5)alternatively on number (4) you can also shoot down on your subject from a vantage point if the ground is clear of distraction. In these case, you will not just tackle a minimalist photography but also will combine a technique of aerial photography F o c a l l e n g t h(1) the right focal length will depend on your location subject and style (2) the tighter the focal length like 85mm allow us to find a subject at a distance and isolate them against a starkly minimal backdrop. You will also get background separation from our subject with a tighter lens [see Example Photo 2 below] (3) however, to best capture a landscape like beaches, lakes or something wide that you wanted to show, 35 mm lens will be best to capture against a wide monochromatic sky. [see Example Photo 3 below] (4) most importantly, any type of focal length can help you achieve types of photos with lots of negative space so experiment with what you have and what you like best. P o s t p r o c e s s i n g(1) for this style of photography we tend to do a little more retouching. Generally would we want to remove any remaining distractions from the photo to really intent. Ideally, if you follow the tips from shooting, editing shouldn't be too bad, since we always add photos in Lightroom or Photoshop.
